Cabinet Measuring Made Simple

Understanding cabinet dimensions is key to choosing the right fit for your space.

This guide breaks down the basics of measuring width, height, and depth, planning for benchtop overhangs, and fitting everything into your layout.

Measure the Width

  • What to measure: From one side of the cabinet to the other (left to right).

  • Use case: This helps determine how many cabinets will fit along your wall or within a set layout.

💡 TipMost standard cabinets come in widths of 200mm to 1000mm in 50-100mm increments.

2

Measure the Height

  • What to measure: From the bottom of the cabinet (excluding legs) to the top.

  • Note: Adjustable legs (usually 90mm–170mm) are not included in cabinet height.

💡 TipConsider total height including the benchtop and legs when planning vertical space.

3

Measure the Depth

  • What to measure: From the back of the cabinet to the front edge of the carcass (excluding door thickness).

  • Standard depth: Often 560mm for base cabinets (without doors).

💡 TipMake sure to allow for door thickness and a buffer (e.g., 16.5mm door + 2mm buffer = 18.5mm total).

4

Plan for Benchtop Overhangs

  • Overhang example: If you have a 600mm benchtop and 580mm deep cabinet, you get a 20mm overhang.

💡 TipThis is normal and helps prevent spills from running directly down cabinet fronts.

5

Match to Your Layout

  • Layout tip: Align cabinet sizes to fit your wall space without awkward gaps.

  • Mix and match: Combine different widths to create functional zones (e.g., pantry, cooking, cleaning, storage).

✅Final check: Ensure sink, appliances, and corners are properly measured before placing your order.
